Starting a GreenStalk Garden – Step by Step

on March 4, 2015

We like to keep things simple. So here is an easy-to-follow checklist about how to start your GreenStalk garden and grow without limits!

1. Get your GreenStalk!

First things first, order your GreenStalk gardening system.

2. Choose seeds or plants.

If this is your first time gardening or if you are impatient (like me), then I would recommend using starter plants. You can order those online or visit your local nursery and they can make some suggestions on easy-to-grow plants that thrive in your area. If you are looking to garden in the most cost-effective way or if you would like to have the satisfaction of seeing a plant grow from a tiny speck, then seeds are for you!

3. Choose your potting mix/soil.

Definitely select a potting mix that is light and holds moisture well. The GreenStalk team really likes Pro-Mix (Amazon). We have done most of our testing with Pro-Mix. However, growers have also had great success with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix (found at almost any local store).

4. Optional: fertilizer

There are literally hundreds of different types of fertilizer out there. Here at the offices, we like to use Osmocote slow release fertilizer. We just sprinkle a little on the top of each planter before stacking it up. *That’s what the little dots are in the photo to the left.

5. Plant it

It’s planting time! Fill each planter up with potting mix and plant your seeds/starter plants into each of the planters six “pockets.”

6. Stack it up

Each planter has a watering disk with the top planter having the water reservoir.

7. Water

Water the entire system from the top water reservoir and walk away. Repeat as needed.

8. Don’t be a stranger

I just ordered one to try out. I am a vegan, organic farmer in the High Desert of California. I’ve been using another make tower that works really well but I felt the design could be improved and lo and behold your tower grows more in about the same space and I like your watering system better. How much media (coir mix) does each planter hold?

    Hi Davilyn,

    Thank you for commenting!

Each planter has a capacity of 6 gallons.
A three-tier GreenStalk would use 2.5 cubic feet of soil/growing medium
A five-tier GreenStalk would use 4.0 cubic feet of soil/growing medium

Hope that answers your question! Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions: Grow@GreenstalkGarden.com or 865-337-7055
